Football Recap: Denver Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Battle
In a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close win over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning decisive three-pointer to secure the hard-fought win.
Defensive Display Seals Contest
Despite recording nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a safety in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets managed just 82 total net yards during the entire game.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's short kick with just over five minutes remaining.
Record Struggles for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to score a potential victory. However Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion rather than sending out kicker Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," Glenn commented after the game.
