Diving into an Unique Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character with the Goal to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have encountered plenty of interesting independent titles. However, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer includes a character that is actually a dung trying to navigate to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is simple: press a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty stages, you'll face boss fights and visit a store to acquire outfits for your dung hero.

Time your jumps carefully, since one mistake requires restarting the level. Leap off floating orbs to hurl the poop higher, navigate disappearing ledges, and touch buttons to reveal new areas. Gather coins and use them on more difficult game content as the action intensifies.

In terms of design, the demo features vibrant level designs and a killer music score. The simple visual style with shifting abstract forms may remind gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although difficult to think of similar titles where you play as a piece of feces, gaming frequently included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make grenades from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as plant food. And of course, such content is present a lot in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive awards, such as winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is accessible now on Steam, with the final release planned to launch on Steam this November.
